You may remember this barn owl who was rescued from the deathly grip of a glue trap a couple of weeks ago…here’s a quick update on how he is doing!
After slowly and carefully removing the glue from his feathers over the period of a week, he was then introduced to a secluded aviary so he could begin the recovery process.
Although his feathers are still showing signs of damage, he is now able to move about well, and has plenty of cover to retreat away from the wet weather. Unfortunately, the feather damage is significant enough to hinder his flight and cause him to become quite waterlogged. With impending bad weather, he would sadly not survive long in this condition, so it is essential these feathers continue to recover before he is released. Potentially he will have to be with us until he moults out the damaged feathers, but being a young bird, this may not now be until after winter.
