Say ‘hello’ to Stanely, our male Striated Caracara!
Even during these unprecedented times, enrichment programmes still form an important part of our daily duties here at Suffolk Owl Sanctuary. Enrichment seeks to replicate natural behaviours, and is important for both the physical and psychological welfare of an animal.
Striated Caracaras are incredibly intelligent scavengers; their learning ability is said to rival that of a crow or a raven - so we must be sure to offer him challenging exercises.
Here, Stanley is being challenged to extract titbits hidden inside bottles.
Rock pool foraging replicates a natural behaviour.
Stanley is being challenged to knock over cones in the search for food.
SOS is a small non-profit charity, and our daily operations - such as enrichment activities - rely entirely on donations. If you are able to donate to help us continue a high standard of care during this crucial time, please click here.
